Laws of Motion
Isaac Newton formulated three fundamental laws of motion, which serve as the foundational postulates for the entire field of dynamics. These laws are derived and justified based on their agreement with actual observations. The three laws of motion are as follows:
-
Newton’s First Law of Motion (Law of Inertia):
It states, "Every body continues in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless acted upon by some external force."
-
Newton’s Second Law of Motion:
It states, "The rate of change of momentum is directly proportional to the impressed force and takes place in the same direction in which the force acts."
-
Newton’s Third Law of Motion:
It states, "To every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction."
